  • Final Thoughts — Are You Ready to Learn WordPress Website Design?

Ever opened a website and thought, “Wow, who built this… and why can’t I make something this clean?” If you nodded (even secretly), trust me  you’re not alone. I asked myself that same question years ago, right before I dove head-first into learning WordPress website design. And guess what? I survived… and even enjoyed it 🙂

So today, let’s talk about something you and I both know you need to know how to learn WordPress website design without stress, without confusion, and definitely without feeling like you’re decoding alien language. Because honestly, who has time for that? Not me. Probably not you either.

And FYI, learning WordPress isn’t rocket science. Actually, if you follow the right steps, it feels more like assembling LEGO  but with fewer missing pieces and more “Aha!” moments.

Let’s get into it.

Why You Should Learn WordPress Website Design

Let me ask you a quick question:
Have you ever wished you could start a business website, build a blog, or design sites for clients and get paid without touching complicated code?

If your answer is “YES!”, then WordPress has your name written all over it.

Here’s why I love WordPress (and why most designers secretly do too):

It’s beginner-friendly — like “I-learned-this-in-a-week” type of friendly.

It powers over 40% of the entire internet (which should tell you something).

You can build ANY website — eCommerce, portfolios, news sites, you name it.

The learning curve won’t fry your brain — my brain is still intact, I promise 😅.

If you ever wanted a skill that pays, grows, and stays relevant, web design sits at the top of the list, IMO.

Step-by-Step: How to Learn WordPress Website Design

Now let’s walk through the part that really matters. No long speeches. Just practical, simple, “talking to a friend” tips that you can use immediately.

1. Understand What WordPress Really Is

Ever heard someone say “WordPress” and you wondered, “Which one? The .com or .org?”
Yeah… same here. WordPress confused me at first too.

WordPress.com vs WordPress.org (Let’s clear it up!)

WordPress.com = hosted for you, limited control, great for blogging only.

WordPress.org = full control, full access, unlimited plugins, best for serious website design.

You already know the winner here:
Choose WordPress.org if you want to design professional websites.

2. Get a Domain & Hosting

Your domain is your website’s home address.
Your hosting is your website’s house.

No domain + hosting = no website. Simple.

What You Need:

A domain name (like yourname.com)

Reliable hosting (don’t pick a super cheap one… unless you like slow websites 🤷‍♂️)

Some reputable hosting providers include:

Bluehost

Hostinger

SiteGround

A2 Hosting

Want help choosing the right hosting provider? You can check tutorials at www.wpbeginner.com  — they explain things in plain English, just how I like it.

3. Install WordPress

Once your hosting is ready, most providers give you a one-click WordPress install.

Trust me, it really is one click.
I didn’t believe it at first either.

After installation, you log into your WordPress dashboard and boom  you’re inside the control center of your new website.

4. Learn Themes (Your Website’s Outfit)

Think of themes as clothing for your website.
You wouldn’t walk around naked, right? Same for your site.

You choose a theme → your site gets structure, layout, and vibes.

Popular Themes You Will Love:

Astra (super fast)

OceanWP (flexible)

GeneratePress (clean and professional)

Hello Theme (perfect for Elementor users)

You can explore theme reviews on themeforest.net  if you want premium designs.

5. Master Page Builders

Want beautiful pages without code?
Say hello to page builders.

These tools let you drag, drop, resize, add, remove  basically shape your website like clay.

Top WordPress Page Builders:

Elementor (my personal favorite — easy, stylish, powerful)

Divi Builder

Bricks Builder

Beaver Builder

Ever wondered why Elementor is so popular?
Because you build stunning designs without touching a single line of code.
Honestly, Elementor saved me from quitting web design in my early days 😅.

Learn page builders well, and you’ll start designing websites that make people say, “Wow, YOU built this?”

6. Learn Plugins (Your Website’s Superpowers)

Plugins are like apps for your website.
You install one → your website gains a new ability.

Need contact forms?
Need eCommerce features?
Need speed optimization?

There’s a plugin for everything.

Essential Plugins:

Yoast SEO (for ranking on Google)

RankMath (SEO alternative)

WooCommerce (for online stores)

Elementor (for design)

WPForms (for contact forms)

WpRocket / LiteSpeed Cache (for speed)

If WordPress was a smartphone, plugins would be all those apps that distract you at 2am… except these ones actually help your website grow

7. Understand Basic SEO

Wait , don’t panic. SEO isn’t scary.

SEO simply means:
Helping your website show up on Google.

And you don’t need deep knowledge to start. You just need the basics:

Write clear page titles

Add keywords naturally

Use alt text on images

Get quality backlinks

Have a fast website

Resources like moz.com/learn/seo  have easy guides to help you improve your search ranking.

8. Practice With Real Projects

This part changed everything for me.

I didn’t just watch tutorials.
I actually built:

Test websites

Dummy pages

Sample blogs

Fake online stores

Personal portfolio sites

When you practice, everything sticks.
When you only watch… nothing sticks. (Don’t ask how I know 😑)

Try building:

A portfolio website

A blog

An eCommerce homepage

A landing page

The more pages you build, the better you get.

9. Learn How to Make a Website Mobile Friendly

Most people browse the web on their phones, right?

Related: Will AI Take Over Cyber Security

So your site MUST look good on smartphone screens.
WordPress + Elementor makes this super easy.

You adjust:

Mobile font sizes

Padding

Alignment

Sections

Ever visited a website where the text spills everywhere?
Yeah… don’t be that person.

10. Keep Learning & Stay Updated

Web design evolves faster than you refresh TikTok.
Themes update.
Plugins update.
SEO changes.
Google changes things every five minutes (okay, slight exaggeration).

To stay sharp, follow:

wptavern.com

elementor.com/blog

tech bloggers who explain updates in plain terms

Because when you keep learning, your designs keep improving.

Benefits of Learning WordPress Website Design

Let me be honest learning WordPress changed my life.
And I know it can change yours too.

Here’s what you get when you master it:

You can start a web design business

You can make money building websites for clients

You can create your own online presence

You control your own digital real estate

You gain a high-income skill

And the best part?
You learn everything without coding.
Zero stress. Zero headache.

Imagine making money from designing websites while sitting in your room, sipping juice, scrolling through playlists. Sounds good, right?

How to Learn Faster (My Real-Life Tips)

Since you’re my friend today, let me give you the shortcuts I wish someone gave me.

Watch tutorials — but practice immediately

Don’t binge-watch tutorials like Netflix shows.

Practice as you watch.

Reverse engineer beautiful websites

See a site you love?
Try to rebuild it with Elementor.

Start with simple projects

Don’t build Amazon on day one.
Start with something small.

Work with clients early

Even small jobs build confidence.

Join design communities

They help you stay inspired and updated.

I believe that the past 25 years of my 50-year-old, technology-laced life have only been an incubator for a silicon chrysalis designed to blur the lines between virtual, augmented, and real-reality.
